About Central Yards
A 1.6 million square foot groundscraper is taking shape on Hong Kong’s new harbourfront. Central Yards is Henderson Land’s flagship development, bringing together commercial space, public areas and smart building technology overlooking Victoria Harbour. With approximately 4,000 m² of dynamic glass planned for the project, ConverLight® plays a key role in the façade solution.
Located at Site 3 on the city’s New Harbourfront, Central Yards features a distinctive 400-metre design, public sky parks and multi-level pedestrian bridges. Positioned in one of the world’s most valuable real estate locations, the project’s sweeping glass façade frames panoramic views across Victoria Harbour.
The development is designed to connect Hong Kong’s core business district with the waterfront while creating new public spaces within the site. Sustainability and building performance are central to the project, which is targeting nine green and smart building certifications, including LEED, WELL and BEAM Plus.

Our Solution
Approximately 4,000 m² of ConverLight® dynamic glass has been selected for the double-skin façade. The glass helps manage solar heat gain while keeping the building’s harbour views open. Controlled through ChromoGenics’ Smart Commercial system, the glass actively adjusts its tint, providing solar control without external shading.
A bespoke colour tone, Henderson Eminence, has been developed specifically for the project, integrating the dynamic glass into the architectural expression of the façade while supporting Central Yards’ wider approach to daylight, energy performance and indoor environmental quality.

Project timeline
Phase 2: Production (In Progress)
Production of the ConverLight® electrochromic foil using advanced roll-to-roll sputtering in Uppsala, followed by local lamination in Asia.
Phase 1: Planning (Completed)
4,000 m² ConverLight® dynamic glass into a double-skin facade design, powered Smart Commercial control system.
Phase 3: Installation (Upcoming)
Final assembly and facade integration are starting in November 2026, heading towards the planned grand opening in 2027.
Project Update
Manufacturing for Central Yards is in the final stage at ChromoGenics’ facility in Uppsala. The production utilizes ChromoGenics’ sustainable delivery model, where the active electrochromic foil is produced as lightweight rolls and packed on compact pallets instead of shipping heavy, finished glass units halfway across the world.
Once on-site in Asia, our certified partner laminates the active interlayer directly into the final glass composition close to the construction site – a process that helps reduce transport emissions and streamlines overall project lead times.
With most of the active interlayer produced in Uppsala and delivered to Hong Kong, the project is progressing smoothly according to plan. Our local partner, GnT Glass, has been laminating the dynamic glass since spring 2026, working in close collaboration with our technical team.
