Having represented ChromoGenics for the past five years, Markus has seen the company’s presence grow from early installations in Northern Germany to an established portfolio of completed projects across the DACH region. A major reason demand continues to rise is the urgent need to modernize existing European real estate. Stricter EU energy requirements and climate targets mean property owners are seeking practical, reliable ways to upgrade windows and façades without undergoing disruptive structural renovations. At the same time, ConverLight® is increasingly chosen for ambitious new builds, signature designs from top architects, and complex overhead glass projects.

“Europe has a vast volume of older buildings that require upgrades to meet current energy standards, but traditional mechanical blinds can be complex or costly to integrate into ageing structures. Dynamic glass offers an effective alternative to improve thermal comfort and reduce operational energy use in both retrofits and new construction,” says Rumpf.

The DACH market is entering an exciting phase. Rising temperatures, increasingly hot summers, and growing awareness of energy efficiency are creating strong momentum for smart façade technologies across Central Europe. Recent warmer seasons have notably increased interest in electrochromic glazing as property owners actively seek solutions to lower operational energy consumption and reduce cooling demands.

“Switzerland continues to be a pioneer in adopting this technology, as investors frequently prioritise long-term performance and sustainability. Germany is following closely, driven by updated energy codes and clear carbon-reduction targets. Austria represents a smaller, but steadily growing market with similar priorities,” notes Rumpf.

For more than 35 years, Markus Rumpf has been helping architects, façade consultants, and building owners bring innovative glazing solutions into landmark projects across Europe. Throughout his career, he has held senior roles at established industry players including Saint-Gobain, Glas Trösch, and Sedak, focusing on high-performance glazing and solar control solutions. Today, he brings this extensive market experience to his role leading ChromoGenics in the DACH region.

“Having our production rooted in Sweden offers distinct advantages for Central European clients. It ensures consistent quality, transparent processes, and dependable delivery schedules. Developers appreciate the security of working with a European supply chain that avoids the uncertainties of long-distance logistics,” Rumpf explains.

As ChromoGenics strengthens its presence across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, the focus remains on working closely alongside architects, façade engineers, and property owners to deliver reliable, long-term solutions.

“Façades are more than visual envelopes – they are active systems that directly influence energy balance, operational costs, and overall building quality. In a European market focused on durability and compliance, high-performance dynamic glass offers a straightforward and dependable answer with no trade-offs,” concludes Rumpf.
