Flexible Design Without Compromises
Just outside Stockholm, a new architectural landmark has taken shape. Järva Cemetery, with its striking ceremonial building and innovative glass facades, represents a significant leap in the possibilities of dynamic glass – made possible by ConverLight®’s flexible technology.
Opened in autumn 2024, Järva Cemetery is an ambitious project commissioned by the City of Stockholm. Designed with burial plots set as islands, surrounded by meadows and pathways, it offers a space for reflection and relaxation for people of all beliefs. At its heart is a newly built ceremonial building designed to host over 100 persons for various ceremonies.
Behind the design are Danish architectural duo Kristine Jensens Tegnestue and Poul Ingemann. Characterised by open areas and abundant natural light, their Scandinavian aesthetic is restrained yet playful – especially in the uniquely shaped window sections. The project required large, custom windows, including round and triangular forms. To foster calm and reflection, a dynamic shading system was needed to adapt to the changing natural light throughout the day.
This is where ConverLight® Dynamic technology came into play. As a multilayered electrochromic foil, it can be cut into nearly any shape or curve, allowing architectural imagination to take the lead. Through ConverLight® Dynamic, these unique features were realised, including an impressive arch of curved glass reaching 4.4 metres high – surpassing the usual 3.5-metre limit for dynamic glass.
"The electrochromic film in ConverLight® Dynamic automatically adjusts its tint based on sunlight, providing shading without obstructing views or compromising natural light. This enhances energy efficiency while creating a peaceful atmosphere inside the ceremonial hall, essential for visitors seeking tranquillity."

Seamless Fit And Smooth Installation
The project required exceptional flexibility from the glass supplier, and ChromoGenics, in collaboration with facade contractor Scandifront, delivered the round and triangular electrochromic glass elements without compromising design or functionality. Scandifront reported a smooth installation and seamless collaboration with the main contractor, Vinge.
ConverLight® Dynamic foil adaptability to various architectural forms represents a major industry breakthrough, enabling projects to combine high-performance solar shading with a distinctive aesthetic. At Järva Cemetery, that dream is now a reality, setting a new standard for dynamic and sustainable architecture.
Why Choose ConverLight?
ConverLight dynamic glass offers unparalleled architectural freedom. Our electrochromic technology in dynamic solar control glass prevents solar heat from entering the building, blocking up to 90% of heat while maintaining excellent daylight and views. ConverLight serves as an automatic climate system, reducing unwanted solar heat radiation, ensuring a comfortable indoor environment, and eliminating the need for external solar control. This makes ConverLight a highly cost-effective choice for all buildings.
